Learn to Bind: A Hands-On Way to Support Someone You Love Postpartum

When someone you love has a baby, there are so many ways to show up for them. You can bring a meal. Hold the baby. Help with laundry. Make sure they get a shower.

But what if you could also learn a hands-on skill specifically designed to support their postpartum recovery?

You can learn to belly bind.

Belly binding is a traditional postpartum practice that uses a long woven cloth wrap to provide gentle support and containment around the abdomen after birth. For many families, it becomes more than a recovery practice—it becomes a meaningful way to care for a new mother during a time when so much attention is placed on the baby.

You Don’t Have to Be a Professional to Learn

Belly binding isn’t something only postpartum professionals need to know how to do. Partners, sisters, mothers, aunties, friends, caregivers, and doulas can all learn the technique.

You don’t need to become a postpartum doula or add another certification to your resume. You simply need to learn how to do it properly, safely, and with intention.

That’s why I created my Belly Binding Training for Pairs. The goal isn’t to turn everyone into a practitioner. It’s to give families the opportunity to learn a skill they can bring home and use to support someone they love.

Why Learn Together?

The postpartum period can be a vulnerable time. A new mother may be recovering from pregnancy, labor, delivery, stitches, a C-section, breastfeeding, interrupted sleep, and the enormous physical and emotional transition that comes with having a baby.

Sometimes what she needs isn’t another person asking, “What can I do?” Sometimes it’s someone who already knows how to show up.

Learning to bind together gives a partner, family member, or caregiver the opportunity to participate in her recovery in a very tangible way. It can become a quiet moment of care: “I learned this so I can help take care of you.”

What You’ll Learn

In my training, I teach the hands-on process of belly binding, including how to work with the wrap and how to properly position and secure it. We also discuss postpartum considerations, safety, and when belly binding may not be appropriate.

This is hands-on learning—not simply watching someone demonstrate the technique. You’ll have the opportunity to practice, because knowing about belly binding and knowing how to actually bind someone are two very different things.

You Get to Take the Experience Home

One of the most important parts of learning to bind is being able to continue the experience after the training.

Each pair receives a belly-binding wrap to take home. That means the person who learns can continue practicing and can use the skill to support their loved one during the postpartum period. The wrap isn’t just something you take home from a class; it’s a tool that allows you to continue participating in postpartum care.

This Is About More Than the Wrap

Postpartum care shouldn’t only be about making sure the baby is fed, changed, and sleeping. The mother needs care, too.

Learning a hands-on postpartum practice creates an opportunity to intentionally bring some of that attention back to her.

  • It’s a way for a partner to participate.

  • A daughter can learn for her mother.

  • A sister can learn for her sister.

  • A friend can learn for a friend.

  • A caregiver can add another skill to the support they provide.

You Don’t Have to Wait Until You Need It

One of the reasons I encourage families to learn before the baby arrives is simple: postpartum is not always the time to learn something completely new.

Before the baby arrives, you have time to ask questions, practice, and become comfortable with the technique. Then, when the time comes, you aren’t trying to figure everything out while someone is recovering from birth. You’re prepared.

Come Learn the Skills with Smooth Transitions

I believe postpartum support should include practical ways to care for the person who just gave birth—not just the baby. That’s why I’m expanding my belly-binding education beyond one-on-one services.
